Our Platforms
All our products are handmade, which means that every piece is unique and a one-of-a-kind solution. This makes perfect sense, as no two audio enthusiasts are alike, and seldom are their systems, and that’s why so many of our platforms are bespoke or custom solutions. We have one standard size but we are also able to produce a custom sizes that work perfectly with super-amps, larger mono-block applications as well as smaller solutions as requested. Both our GP3 and our GP2 platforms integrate seamlessly onto our PIRS audio racks, making them perfect solutions for turntables, CD players and amplifier applications.
We use Canadian maple because of its very high rating on the Janka scale and it’s a diffuse porous wood which has a much smoother surface which deflects more of the airborne vibration. By comparison, we use Ash for the frame and directional surfaces on our Boreal acoustic panels because Ash is a more textured, Ring porous wood that has small pockets like that of a Red Oak which works well in capturing mid frequencies.
We also have access to various colour and patterned options. We use hard white maple for lighter presentations or Brown and red maple for stronger colour and pronounce grain patterns or even a roasted tempered maple which has the appearance of black walnut but cost about half as much which is my personal favourite. Fun fact, when you cut it on the saw it smells like maple syrup…yeah really!
The solid maple structure of our platforms have a beveled front face and side returns, these angles deflect energy down and away from both the platform and your equipment. The primary body or cartridge [ butcher block…we avoid the term! ] has a core of laminated maple slats that run front to back or side to side depending the application. We do this because vibration travels 4 times more efficiently with the wood grain than against it. We then cap the end grain with a perpendicular rail before it is mechanical fastened to the large, beveled sides, this further minimizes the transference of seismic energy into the perimeter structure.
Great Plains GP3 & GP3-A
The structural 1-3/8” thick laminated maple cartridge supports a series of unique inner layers that absorb and dampen structural vibration. The upper insulating layers are held away from the large sidewalls to minimize further transference of energy up and into the treated alloy plate, any vibrations that are absorbed get converted into heat and released outside the platform.
It is important to note that our platforms may be slightly larger than industry standards. This is because the aluminum top plate is the bearing surface for your equipment and the large maple perimeter structure extends outward from there. For this reason, it is important to make sure that the size and application of the platform will work on your
existing rack and within your listening area.
Additional upgrades such as alternate hardwoods, stained finish and Sorbothane Isolation will be provided upon request.
A discount of 7.5% will be provided for the purchase of multiple platforms in either model.

Great Plains GP2
Our Great Plains GP2 isolation platforms can also be ordered in custom sizes.
This series of platforms share many of the same design principles and features as the larger GP3 and GP3-A platforms.
The GP2 uses many of the same maple cartridge construction principles as the GP3 platform but in a 1-1/2” thick application. This unit also incorporates the treated 1/4” aluminum top plate, 2 of the insulative materials and the highly effective isolated foot treatment with a smaller stainless-steel barrel.
Additional upgrades such as alternate hardwoods, stained finish and Sorbothane Isolation will be provided upon request.
A discount of 7.5% will be provided for the purchase of multiple platforms.
GP2 Isolation platform
Top aluminum contact plate = W 19” X D 15” X H .25”
Overall dimensions = W 24-1/2” X D 19-1/8” X H 4-5/16”
Weight 40-45 lbs
Load rating 100 lbs

Our New Pricing Structure
Tough Nut Audio has come a long way in a short time. This past March, we exhibited with Corby’s Audio at the 2024 Montreal AudioFest and it became evident that it was time to take our burgeoning company to the next level.
Since that time, we have worked hard to draw on the expertise of others, to increase our already stellar performance, quality standards, and reduce some of the production costs.
This evolution to both performance and the manufacturing has been very rewarding. Our ethos has been that “we are on an endless quest for less”…less vibration, less restricted reproduction of music, and coincidentally, now less cost as well.
See our new pricing below…
24-1/2” x 19-1/8” x 4-5/8”H
23-1/2” x 26-1/8” x 4-5/8”H
