Our Great Plains Isolation Platforms (GP) and the 3’D’s fundamentals.
All our GP Isolation Platforms are handmade in Canada, which means that every piece is unique and a one-of-a-kind solution. And just like our customers, no two audio enthusiasts are alike, and neither are their systems. Many of our platforms are bespoke or custom solutions.
The Tough Nut 3’D’s isolation fundamentals all contribute to the performance of our GP series isolation platforms.
The first ‘D’ is to DISRUPT seismic vibration, which is achieved with our Tough Nut Isolation Footers. Our rubber footers, which we compress with stainless steel barrels, minimize the transference of energy.
The second ‘D’ is our ability to DEFLECT airborne vibration. All our isolation platforms incorporate beveled surfaces, minimizing direct contact and deflecting airborne vibration down and away from both the platform and component. We only use Canadian maple, which is one of the fastest growing hardwoods and is a diffuse porous wood with extremely small pores minimizing energy trapping. And, our clear-coat finished platforms further aid in the airborne vibration deflection.
Our third ‘D’ is the DISSIPATION of negative energies. The top surface of our platforms is an aluminum constraining plate. This surface is approximately 60% as conductive as pure copper, absorbing significant amounts of both EMI and RFI from the component as well as environmental emissions, providing a much cleaner operating environment for the component. The aluminum plate is also beneficial in converting vibration to heat more efficiently than steel. Fabrication
All of our platforms are constructed with Canadian hardwood maple, and incorporate a laminated maple cartridge, and unique insulative layers, which absorb and dampen structural vibration. The insulating layers & aluminum constraining plate are held away from the solid maple perimeter structure to minimize further transference of energy. Any vibration absorbed into the constraining plate is converted into heat. The aluminum constraining plate also absorbs both EMI & RFI negative enery, which can be transferred through a signal ground, effectively cleansing the plate. Our aluminum constaining layers are pre-drilled for a ground screw.
Our finishes of oil, clear-coat or black stain with clear-coat, enhance the maple wood grain. Customized finish colours are available, including a torrefied maple hardwood for a darker wood finish.
GP – Great Plains Series Isolation Platforms
GP1 – Our GP1 is our entry level & smallest isolation platform. It’s structure is constructed in Canadian maple with beveled sides, insulative layers and an aluminum constraining layer with a threaded grounding screw. It features our Tough Nut Isolation Footers.
GP2 – Our middle format, the GP2, has greater isolation than that of the GP1, in the insulation layer and a larger constraining plate. It has larger Tough Nut Isolation Footers and a larger load capacity.
GP3 – The GP3 series isolation platforms are our flagship models, and come in three distinctive formats. The GP3, GP3-R and the GP3-A. Each model incorporates maximum insulative layers, and increased load capacity.
The standard GP3 is the same footprint of our GP2, with more insulative layers under the aluminum constraining plate making it slightly taller and more effective at dissipating negative energy, while still incorporating the bevels and Tough Nut Isolation Footers.
The GP1, GP2 & GP3 Isolation Platforms have the flexibility of custom positioning the Isolation Footers for many smaller surface applications.
The GP3-R is the crown jewel of our isolation platform category and has an extended width of 2.5″ (64mm) wider than the GP3 with through-body Isolation Footers. This added width also allows the GP3-R to locate into the top rails of our PIRS Isolation Racks. The larger mass and through-body stainless steel hardware add to this isolation platforms ability to disrupt, deflect, dissipate vibration at the highest levels. This platform also incorporates a bubble level.
The GP3-A is our largest format, similar to the GP3-R in structure and incorporating greater depth for large super amps and mono-block configurations. These isolation platforms are generally floor units and can also incorporate a centred fifth footer to manage component weights in excess of 350 lbs (159kg).
GP-H[m] – Our newest member to the Tough nut Isolation Platform series is the GP-H[m] high mass platform. This unique configuration has but one purpose, and that is to support the High Mass Turntable category. These larger platforms also incorporate our 3’D’ isolation fundamentals, but have less insulative layers, since High Mass Turntables leverage their weight to create their own resonance control. Over-isolating or dampening can introduce a muffled or lifeless effect when listening to vinyl…we liken it to putting Cadillac suspension on a Ferrari and hoping for the same results! Additionally, the GP-H[m] isolation platform incorporates harder durometer Tough Nut Isolation Footers and a fifth footer at its centre, to manage loads in excess of 350 lbs (159kg).

PERFORMANCE TESTING
Our new testing device is the Vibration Station 2.0, which was co-designed and engineered with SOLEN Canada. It’s flexibility and performance allows us to test specific frequencies, as well as sweeps ranging from 18Hz to 20,000Hz. This has provided us with insights and proof of what our ears have been telling us all along, that our 3Ds principles; Disrupt seismic vibration, Deflect airborne vibration and Dissipate component vibration, are fundamental in the design and build of our high performance and full range Isolation Platforms.
